What happened
Frederick Ricardo Brown, 34, was shot and killed by officers serving with the U.S. Marshals Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team in Warren, Michigan, on March 16, 2017. State police said investigators were trying to locate Brown on a warrant involving a sex crime and had watched an apartment near Martin and Hoover Roads. When officers approached, Brown ran across the road beside a party store. Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said members of the task force identified themselves, and Brown then pulled a handgun from his waistband; officers and Brown exchanged gunfire, according to Shaw. Brown was struck, transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. Investigators secured the scene and reviewed the shots fired as an officer-involved death. The warrant represented an allegation pending criminal proceedings, not a conviction. The description of Brown drawing and firing a weapon is attributed to police, and the contemporary report did not provide a later final prosecutorial determination.
