What happened

Rashad Daquan Opher, 20, was fatally wounded in a Baltimore County police shooting shortly before midnight on March 13, 2017, near Walnut Street and Englewood Avenue in Woodlawn; he died the following day. Police linked a group of three men to several reported armed robberies and said officers followed a suspect from a Royal Farms store to a nearby car. As Corporal Gonzales and K-9 Officer Pierce approached on foot, police said the vehicle accelerated toward them, and both officers fired, striking all three occupants. Opher was the only person who died. Two other men were hospitalized, and prosecutors later filed armed-robbery and weapons charges against one surviving teenager. Investigators recovered property and a handgun they linked to robberies. The department placed the two officers on administrative leave while the shooting was examined. The claim that the car threatened officers was their account of the use of force, not an independent judicial finding.
