What happened

Mark Guirguis, 21, was shot and killed by Allen, Texas, police on January 1, 2017, after officers responded to a suspicious pickup truck near South Jupiter Road. A caller reported a white truck driving through the neighborhood with its occupants shining flashlights and repeatedly honking its horn. Officers attempted a traffic stop. According to the department, the driver accelerated backward toward an officer who was near a tree, and officers fired into the truck. Guirguis died and another occupant was injured. Police later reported the Ford Ranger had been stolen and that Guirguis had an outstanding warrant, separate claims that did not themselves establish the immediate danger at the moment of the shooting.
