What happened

Terrell Walker, 48, was killed by East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies on November 27, 2016, following a violent series of incidents in Baton Rouge. Investigators alleged Walker fatally shot his girlfriend, April Peck, pushed her from a car near Essen Lane and United Plaza Boulevard, then returned and attacked people and emergency responders trying to help her. A teenage EMT trainee and others were injured during the attack. Deputies searched for Walker for hours and said he opened fire when they located him; deputies Benjamin Friedman and Shawn Anderson returned fire, striking Walker five times. The Louisiana State Police investigated the police shooting for District Attorney Hillar Moore III. Authorities later disclosed the officers' identities, and Moore said the deputy who shot Walker would not face a grand jury. Anderson was subsequently killed in a separate 2017 incident while investigating a reported assault. The allegations against Walker and the account of his final confrontation come from investigators and prosecutors, not a criminal trial.
