What happened
Malcolm Loren Hickson, 25, was killed by a Carrollton, Texas SWAT officer outside the InTown Suites on West Trinity Mills Road on October 26, 2016. Carrollton police said they had sought Hickson over domestic-violence allegations when an 18-year-old woman reported escaping a hotel room where she said he was holding women against their will and engaging in sex trafficking. Police surrounded the hotel overnight. Spokeswoman Jolene DeVito said Hickson emerged the following morning with a gun in his waistband, initially raised his hands when officers ordered him to do so, then reached for the weapon; a nine-year officer fired a fatal shot. Hickson's mother, Natalie Hickson, challenged the police version, asserting that her son would have kept his hands raised and rejecting the allegations reported against him. The reported accusations were not adjudicated because Hickson died during the attempted arrest. His obituary identified his wife Lapresha and surviving relatives. The contemporaneous investigation and family challenge are documented in CBS Texas reporting; no final criminal review decision is established by that report.
