What happened

Gregory Frazier, 55, was shot and killed by Broward sheriff's deputies outside a Pompano Beach, Florida, home on September 9, 2016, after his sister Deborah called 911 about a family argument. She said she hoped officers would talk to and calm her brother. Deputies found Frazier in the backyard holding a pocketknife; two deputies fired during the confrontation. Deborah acknowledged that he had a rusty pocketknife but questioned why trained officers had not tried conversation or a Taser. His death left a family seeking answers after a call intended to obtain help. The alleged danger is described in the sheriff's account, which does not itself establish a final judicial ruling on the necessity of force.
