What happened
Jerome Damon, 25, was killed by Atlantic City police on September 3, 2016, outside Caesars Casino. Prosecutors said two patrol officers saw a robbery in progress near a parking garage; an officer was shot and critically wounded as the police approached. The second officer fired and struck Damon, who was found dead about a block and a half away. Police arrested two surviving men, Martell Chisholm and Demetrius Cross, on attempted-murder, robbery and weapon charges. Those charges were allegations against the surviving suspects, not a trial verdict concerning Damon. The armed confrontation and grave injury to an officer are essential context for his fatal shooting.
