What happened

Joshua S. Beebee, 31, was shot and killed by Omaha police Officer Kenneth Rowe in a field near 165th and Maple Streets on May 20, 2016. Two 911 callers reported a man walking with a knife. Officers pursued Beebee after he ran, and Rowe drove across the field to block his route toward apartments. Police said Beebee turned and charged with the knife; Rowe fired seven shots. His family questioned why officers did not first use a Taser, noting police radio traffic requesting one shortly before the shooting. A grand jury later concluded no one had committed a crime in Beebee's death. The jury's decision and the family's concerns are separate parts of the case record.
