What happened

Arthur DaRosa, 28, was fatally shot by an off-duty Plymouth County sheriff's deputy inside a Bertucci's restaurant in Taunton, Massachusetts, on May 10, 2016. Authorities said DaRosa had crashed a vehicle, entered a home and stabbed two women, killing Patricia Slavin, 80, then drove into Silver City Galleria Mall and attacked additional people. At the mall's restaurant, he stabbed and killed schoolteacher George Heath and injured a waitress. Deputy James Creed intervened and shot DaRosa, ending the assault. The deaths of Slavin and Heath, as well as the other injured victims, must be included when describing this incident. A later Massachusetts appellate decision also examined emergency-response issues involving the initial stabbing victims.
