What happened
Reginald Darnell Dogan, 53, was shot by a Greenville County sheriff's deputy near a Walmart in Taylors, South Carolina, on May 2, 2016, and died more than two weeks later. Deputies said they responded to a report that a man was waving a gun near East Warehouse Court and Artillery Road. According to the sheriff's office, Dogan approached a deputy while holding a gun and was shot in the neck. The county coroner announced his death on May 18. The difference between the shooting date and date of death must be preserved. Contemporary reporting establishes the official allegations and the coroner's confirmation, but does not document a final independent criminal finding about the deputy's use of force.
