What happened

Kendar del Rosario, 37, was killed by Miami police Officer Juan Herrera early on April 28, 2016, near Northwest Seventh Avenue and Second Street. A Miami Police Department release says Herrera encountered del Rosario carrying a knife and a bloodied woman seeking help. Investigators later identified the woman as Joenny Maribel Medina Feliz, who died from her injuries, and said her two-year-old daughter had also been stabbed; the child underwent emergency surgery. Del Rosario was shot at the scene and died. The official release identifies the officer, the woman and the injured child, and notes the investigation was continuing. The fatal attacks reported at the nearby apartment and the police claim of a knife threat must be documented without treating the initial investigation as a completed adjudication.
