What happened
Willie Tillman, 33, was shot by Fayetteville, Arkansas, Officer Brandon Jones during an April 23, 2016, traffic stop and died in May. Officers stopped his Chrysler 200 for traveling without headlights. According to a department investigation, Tillman briefly exited, then reentered his car and tried to drive away while two officers were partly inside; Jones fired, injuring Tillman. After he died, Fayetteville police announced that their internal review found Jones acted within department policy. The chronology matters because Tillman was wounded during the April encounter but died later. The police account of the car's movement and the internal policy determination should not be conflated with an independent jury verdict.
