What happened
Matthew Vincent Wood Jr., 43, was shot and killed alongside his son Kimani Johnson during an encounter with Baltimore police on March 31, 2016. Officers were seeking Wood on a warrant and pursued him and Johnson through a residential area. Police fired approximately 56 rounds at the men, killing both. Early official statements alleged that one or both had fired at officers; subsequent investigative reporting raised substantial doubts, including indications that neither man discharged a weapon. Their relatives questioned the scale of the gunfire and officers' handling of the pursuit. The deaths are one shared confrontation, recorded under two identities, and the reported ballistic evidence should be separated from claims in the initial police accounts.
