What happened

Kimani Johnson, 18, was shot and killed by Baltimore police on March 31, 2016, during a confrontation with officers who were pursuing his father, Matthew Vincent Wood Jr., near East Baltimore. Police said Wood was being sought on an arrest warrant and that both men fired at officers; subsequent reporting and ballistic reviews challenged key elements of the police narrative. Officers fired dozens of rounds, killing Johnson and Wood. Baltimore's Civilian Review Board later criticized the police response and evidence handling, while the family disputed that either man fired a weapon. The two men have separate fatality records but were killed in the same incident; the officers' statements and independent forensic findings must not be conflated.
