What happened

Marquintan Sandlin, 32, was shot and killed by Inglewood police while seated in a parked car with Kisha Michael during the early hours of February 21, 2016. The police response began with a 911 report concerning the couple's Chevrolet Malibu. Officers surrounded the vehicle and fired numerous rounds, killing both people inside. Neither victim fired a shot, and no body-worn or patrol-car camera recorded the fatal gunfire. The Los Angeles County district attorney's March 2022 investigation documented flaws and missing evidence in the original Inglewood inquiry but concluded prosecutors lacked proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers acted unlawfully. Michael's and Sandlin's individual deaths are recorded separately, while the shared circumstances and later prosecutorial findings are consistent across both.
