What happened

Antronie Scott, 36, was unarmed when San Antonio police Officer John Lee shot and killed him on February 4, 2016, during an attempted arrest at an apartment complex. Lee said Scott spun toward him holding an object that he mistook for a gun. The object was a cellphone. Body-camera and witness evidence complicated the officer's explanation and prompted demands for accountability. Bexar County prosecutors declined criminal charges after reviewing the case, and the department disciplined Lee for policy violations. The killing illustrates the fatal consequences of mistaking an ordinary object for a firearm. The family's objections to the tactics and the no-charge decision are separate from the fact that Scott had no weapon.
