What happened
Adriene Jamarr Ludd, 36, was shot and killed by Sacramento County sheriff's deputies in Carmichael on October 22, 2015. Deputies reported they were trying to stop Ludd for a traffic violation when he ran and allegedly drew a handgun, firing at pursuing officers. Four deputies returned fire, killing him near a residential street. Ludd's family and community activists questioned the deputies' statements and demanded release of evidence. The publicized allegations of gunfire originated with law enforcement; the underlying question of what Ludd actually did and when officers discharged their weapons must be evaluated against physical and witness evidence.
