What happened
Charles A. Pettit Jr., 19, was fatally shot by Midwest City police Officer James Hill in Oklahoma on October 5, 2015. District Attorney David Prater declined to charge Hill, and the officer returned to duty. Pettit's family disputed the account supporting that decision and pursued a civil-rights lawsuit. His father, Charles Pettit Sr., later publicly demanded that Oklahoma officials reopen the case, arguing that video evidence contradicted the official version. These competing positions are not equivalent to a court verdict: the prosecutor's decision is documented, while the family's claims and request for renewed review remain allegations and advocacy. The exact sequence of the confrontation requires examination of the original video and investigative file.
