What happened

Anthony McKinney, 46, was fatally shot by an East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy responding to a domestic violence call on Maplewood Drive on September 26, 2015. Investigators said first responders found McKinney stabbing a woman and that a deputy fired to stop the assault. The woman survived but was reported in critical condition at a hospital. WAFB reported that McKinney had been arrested on domestic-abuse-related charges days earlier and released on bond the previous day; those pending charges were not convictions. The reported ongoing stabbing and the injured woman's condition are essential context. The reviewed contemporary report documents the opening of an investigation but not a later separate officer prosecution.
