What happened

Brandon Foy, 29, was shot and killed by Indiana State Police during a drug investigation at an apartment complex on Inland Drive East in Indianapolis on September 10, 2015. Contemporary reporting summarized in a national police-shootings compilation says that troopers confronted him and that Foy drew a firearm and shot a trooper in the hand. Officers returned fire, killing him. The injured trooper and alleged exchange of gunfire are essential circumstances and should not be omitted. The information reviewed does not identify a later independent prosecutor's decision or civil outcome, and the reconstruction of Foy's actions is attributed to officers rather than presented as a criminal-court finding.
