What happened
James Marcus Brown, 25, was shot and killed by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Walter Young on August 29, 2015, after police investigated a reported phone theft. Brown ran from a stopped vehicle carrying a handgun; Young chased him and attempted a Taser, which did not incapacitate him. According to the Clark County district attorney's detailed report, Brown turned toward Young while still holding the gun, and Young fired two fatal shots. The district attorney completed a use-of-force review and declined to bring criminal charges against Young. That finding establishes the prosecutor's legal conclusion, not independent resolution of every factual disagreement regarding the pursuit and final shooting.
