What happened

Andre Alexander Green, 15, was killed by Indianapolis police on August 9, 2015, after officers pursued a vehicle reported stolen in an armed carjacking. Police blocked the car at a dead-end street and said Green attempted to accelerate toward officers; a responding officer fired. Green's family disputed whether the force was necessary. Later federal litigation described the police formation and disputed sequence in detail. In 2021 the Seventh Circuit affirmed judgment against the estate's federal excessive-force claim on the evidentiary record before it. The court's decision is a legal outcome, while Green's age, the officers' tactical choices and the limits of the video and witness evidence remain relevant to understanding the fatal encounter.
