What happened
Roderick Burr, 33, died when a Brookshire, Texas, police officer shot him in his front yard on August 8, 2015. Authorities said a confrontation between Burr and his brother escalated when Burr fired a gun in his brother's direction. Police Chief Brandal Jackson said the arriving officer then came under fire and shot Burr through the windshield of the patrol vehicle. Neighbors reported hearing repeated shots and described seeing Burr's brother in distress after the killing. The initial official account was supported in part by witness descriptions of gunfire before officers arrived, but the published reporting does not establish a separate later judicial conclusion about the officer's use of deadly force.
