What happened

Martice Milliner, 27, was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer near 75th Street and Langley Avenue on July 9, 2015. Police said the officer confronted Milliner in response to a man-with-a-gun report and fired when he allegedly drew or pointed a gun. Milliner's sister disputed the account in a wrongful-death lawsuit, alleging an unjustified shooting and misleading police reports. Chicago's civilian police-accountability agency documented the case under log 1076072. In 2020, Chicago proposed a $250,000 settlement for the family. The civil resolution and police statements do not establish that every allegation in either side's version was independently proved.
