What happened
Robert Elando Malone was killed by Oklahoma City police on July 4, 2015, during an encounter near Southeast 51st Street and Sunnylane Road. Police said witnesses reported a man moving among parked vehicles with a gun. After Malone fled officers on foot, a police helicopter followed him, and officers said he pointed his firearm at the aircraft. Sergeants Edward Mosier and Joey Laughead confronted Malone on the ground and discharged their weapons, killing him. Both officers were placed on administrative leave as the shooting was investigated. Contemporary news reporting documents the police department's account of Malone's actions and the officers' identities. It does not establish a later judicial finding accepting every statement made by investigators, nor a final criminal charge against either sergeant.
