What happened

Kenneth Joel Dothard, 40, was killed by Carrollton Police Corporal Chad Cook near Bankhead Highway in Georgia on May 28, 2015. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that officers responded to a call about a person with a gun near a bank, and Cook spoke with Dothard, who had a handgun in a holster. Audio of the encounter records Cook repeatedly warning him not to draw it. GBI investigators said Dothard moved to withdraw the gun and Cook fired two shots, striking him in the head. A revolver was found near the body. The GBI announced an independent investigation and planned to present its findings to prosecutors. The agency's initial press release is an official investigative account, not evidence of the final prosecutorial disposition.
