What happened
James Edward Strong Jr., 32, was killed on May 28, 2015, when a Northglenn-area SWAT team entered his Colorado home to execute a narcotics search warrant. Police described the operation as a no-knock raid and said Strong fired at officers, wounding Officer Nicholas Wilson in the arm and leg; officers then returned fire. Strong's wife and children were inside the home. In subsequent federal civil litigation, the family challenged the officers' tactics and alleged police fired through walls and into areas occupied by children. Reporting on the lawsuit described 22 gunshot wounds, as stated by the family's attorney. The police account and the allegations in the civil complaint must be distinguished; filing a lawsuit does not mean those allegations were proved in court.
