What happened

Anthony Briggs, 36, was shot by Huntsville police on May 25, 2015, after a violent confrontation at an apartment complex in Alabama. Police and witnesses said Briggs attacked his brother Quinten with a knife and also stabbed a neighbor, Matthew Hooks, when the neighbor intervened. Officers arrived after emergency calls. The neighbor's father told WAFF he witnessed Briggs approach police with the knife while shouting threats; he said officers repeatedly ordered Briggs to drop the weapon before firing. Briggs later died at a hospital, while the two men who were stabbed were treated for their injuries. The contemporaneous reporting documents an armed confrontation and an eyewitness supporting the officers' account; it does not establish a separate later criminal or civil adjudication concerning the shooting.
