What happened
Caso Jackson, 25, was shot and killed by Detroit police on May 23, 2015, after a hostage situation at a house in the city. Local reporting and a police-account chronology collected by Detroit's Coalition for Police Transparency and Accountability state that Jackson barricaded himself with several family members inside. Police reported that he emerged from the house and fired at officers, who returned fire. The coalition lists five people, including Jackson's wife and four relatives, as hostages during the incident. The episode involved an armed confrontation as described by police, not an ordinary unarmed stop. The reviewed material establishes the fatal shooting and the official version, but it does not supply an independently adjudicated account of each shot or a final public prosecution decision.
