What happened
Ronell Wade, 45, was fatally shot by Harvey and Phoenix police officers in Illinois on May 17, 2015, following an armed robbery and pursuit. A detailed Cook County State's Attorney decision memorandum describes officers' response to a Family Dollar robbery, Wade's movement through the area and subsequent gunfire. Investigators obtained civilian witness statements, surveillance footage, dispatch information and forensic evidence. Prosecutors concluded the evidence was insufficient to support criminal charges against Harvey Officer Antoine Anderson or Phoenix Officer O'Neal Gray. Early reporting also described the pursuit passing through a crowded church. The charging memorandum provides a documented account of the state's decision; the determination not to prosecute is separate from the fact that Wade died from officers' gunfire.
