What happened

D'Angelo Stallworth, 28, died after two Jacksonville sheriff's officers shot him at the Planters Walk Apartments during an eviction-related visit on May 12, 2015. Officers Steve Srozinski and Troy Blum reported encountering Stallworth near a neighboring apartment. Police said Stallworth possessed a gun, struggled with an officer and later moved in a way the officers interpreted as threatening. Stallworth's mother and supporters publicly disputed that explanation, raising questions about witnesses and his ability to handle a firearm. They organized a demonstration seeking accountability. In December 2015, the sheriff's internal Response to Resistance Board concluded the officers acted within department guidelines. That internal review was not a judicial determination resolving the family's objections.
