What happened

Unarmed 29-year-old Brendon Glenn was shot and killed by Los Angeles Police Officer Clifford Proctor in Venice on May 5, 2015, after officers responded to a complaint involving Glenn and a nearby bar. Witness accounts and surveillance footage raised serious questions about why deadly force was used after a struggle involving officers and Glenn. A 2018 district-attorney review declined charges; later prosecutors reexamined the evidence. A previous murder indictment was dismissed in June 2026, but on August 31, 2026, Los Angeles County prosecutors announced a new indictment charging Proctor with second-degree murder. Prosecutors cited evidence they contend contradicts any claim that Glenn posed a deadly threat, while acknowledging that the defense disputes criminal liability. The renewed charge is an allegation; the presumption of innocence applies unless a court finds guilt.
