What happened
Atlanta officers fatally shot 25-year-old Alexia Christian on April 30, 2015, while she was handcuffed in the rear of a police cruiser after an arrest involving a reported stolen truck. Police said Christian freed one wrist, retrieved a firearm that officers had not found during the arrest, and fired toward the front of the vehicle. Two officers exited and fired repeatedly into the cruiser, killing her. Christian's mother and family attorney questioned the handling of the arrest and the lack of footage showing her final moments. After a lengthy review, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced in July 2016 that the officers would not face charges, while criticizing failures in arrest procedures and evidence preservation. That charging decision does not resolve the family's unanswered questions about how the confrontation unfolded.
