What happened
On February 25, 2015, Oklahoma City officers attempted to stop a car driven by Glenn Lewis, who continued driving and was pursued through city streets. Police said the route ended at a dead-end street. Two officers got out and alleged that Lewis then drove toward them, leading them to fire at his vehicle. The car traveled another block and hit a parked vehicle. Officers opened the door and discovered Lewis had been wounded; he died from the gunshots. The detailed public narrative of the encounter stems largely from police descriptions of the vehicle's movement. The case demands a distinction between the fact that Lewis was shot during a police pursuit and the allegation that his driving left officers no alternative. Records reviewed here do not settle the exact angles of the shots or what dash-camera footage, if any, showed.
Investigation & findings
The initial shooting was under investigation, according to contemporaneous reporting compiled by The Guardian. No independently corroborated final charging outcome was identified.
