What happened
Lavall Hall's mother, Catherine Daniels, called police before dawn because she believed her son, who had schizophrenia, needed psychiatric care. Officers Peter Ehrlich and Eddo Trimino responded to the family home. Police alleged that Hall threatened them with a broom handle and that a Taser failed to subdue him. Footage subsequently released by the family showed officers following him and recorded a threat that he would be killed if he did not get on the ground. Witnesses questioned whether Hall held a broom at the moment shots were fired. Trimino fired the fatal rounds. The family brought litigation and Daniels established a charity in his memory, seeking changes in police treatment of psychiatric emergencies.
Investigation & findings
The officer-defense account and the family's interpretation of video are disputed. The 2015 reporting confirms a family lawsuit and video release, not a final criminal finding.
