What happened
A Home Depot employee called police about a woman reportedly involved in a confrontation at the store; police dispatch alleged the woman had a gun. Officers encountered Yuvette Henderson several blocks away and shot her. Her death prompted protests, including at the Home Depot, and neighborhood organizing against the use of lethal force. Witness accounts described by the Anti Police-Terror Project challenged the department's account, and activists argued that early official statements misrepresented the encounter. Henderson's family and community sought transparency concerning the officers' actions, whether she actually threatened them and why other options were not used.
Investigation & findings
The original police claim about a gun and the advocacy group's contrary eyewitness accounts are disputed material. Neither establishes a final criminal finding in the sources reviewed.
