What happened
Officers attempted to stop a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo for a reported traffic violation. Police said the driver fled and eventually drove into a retaining wall in an alley near Cottage and Marcus avenues. Isaac Holmes, who was a passenger, exited. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department alleged he held a loaded 9mm handgun and failed commands to drop it; two officers then shot him. Holmes was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. A weapon was reported recovered at the scene. The record must distinguish police allegations concerning his movements from any independent witness or forensic assessment that becomes available.
