What happened
Police were called to Old Agency Baptist Church while a wedding was underway following reports that Terence Walker threatened a former girlfriend. Officer Chansey McMillin began speaking with Walker, and his body camera recorded the encounter. Walker fled during a pat-down, dropped a handgun as he ran and retrieved it. Police video showed the officer firing as Walker turned with the weapon; he died at the scene. Public release of the recording provided unusual contemporaneous evidence of the critical seconds, although the police description of the threat still requires attribution. Walker's death is part of the archive of fatal law-enforcement encounters rather than evidence by itself that this particular shooting was criminal.
Investigation & findings
Body-camera footage was made public by the department. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation handled a shooting inquiry; do not invent a prosecution outcome without a case-specific record.
