What happened
On September 2, 2005, Officer David Warren fired at Glover as he ran away below the officer's lookout position. Glover's brother and another man got help from passing driver William Tanner to take him for treatment. At an improvised police station, officers detained the rescuers and left Glover dying in Tanner's car. Officer Greg McRae subsequently drove the car away and burned it with Glover's body still inside, destroying crucial evidence and deepening the family's anguish.
Investigation & findings
Federal criminal proceedings established the shooting, the burning, and obstruction allegations; Warren's initial conviction was vacated on appeal and a new trial was ordered. Avoid treating his original 2010 conviction as an unchanged final outcome. McRae was convicted in relation to the burning and obstruction.
