What happened
According to the independently compiled Fatal Encounters record, Beasley accepted a ride from Earl Murray without knowing that Murray intended to stop for a drug transaction. On June 12, 2000, federal and local officers attempted to detain Murray at a Jack in the Box. As the vehicle moved during the operation and locked bumpers with a law-enforcement SUV, officers fired a total of about twenty-one shots at the car. Both Murray and Beasley were killed, although the database states they were unarmed. Beasley's case is particularly significant because he was a passenger rather than the operation's intended target.
Investigation & findings
The source identifies a DEA and local-police operation and a fatal volley of shots, but no adjudicated misconduct conclusion or final criminal disposition has been independently established in this research pass.
