What happened
Six-year-old Hind Rajab was trapped in a car in Gaza City on January 29, 2024 after Israeli fire struck a vehicle carrying family members. Emergency call recordings captured her pleas for rescue after relatives had been killed. A Palestine Red Crescent ambulance dispatched to reach her also came under attack, killing two rescuers. Hind, her relatives, and the ambulance crew were later found dead. Independent forensic investigators reconstructed the gunfire and military vehicle positions, and the case became an international symbol of the suffering of Palestinian children.
Investigation & findings
Forensic Architecture investigated the attack using audio, photographs and spatial analysis. The Palestinian Red Crescent documented the emergency calls and responders. Specific criminal responsibility requires an independent legal determination; the physical evidence and documented deaths must not be minimized.
