The September 23 hazing investigation

Madison Police responded to a reported hazing incident at the Alpha Epsilon Pi house on Langdon Street on September 23, 2026.

The department’s release says officers found approximately 30 partially clothed people in the basement, several with visible injuries. Two chapter officers were arrested on allegations of hazing and disorderly conduct; the release does not establish a conviction.

UW–Madison had terminated the chapter’s recognition in 2015. Its response to the 2026 incident, the national fraternity’s position and the police investigation are covered below.

The chapter’s recognition history

UW–Madison’s May 6, 2015 announcement records the end of university recognition. The later coverage also follows the national fraternity’s relationship with the chapter and its response to the September 2026 incident. National recognition is separate from the university’s decision.
